Why Bother? - I bother with my comments because I care about the future of Australia, our nation's children and their children, Because I believe I can help people see more clearly through the fog that shrouds many technical issues and because I believe we all have a responsibility to make this world a better place. My perspective is that of an experienced Engineer, so I tend to think in terms of physical problems and technical issues, of how to ask relevant questions, how to understand the real problems, find answers and then formulate practical solutions.

Measuring the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Government - Go to your favourite web seach engine and look for the phrase "measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of government" (with the quotes) - don't be surprised if you don't find any useful answers. Next, search for "ineffective government" (with the quotes) and you'll get millions of hits.

Why is this so?  Perhaps the words "effectiveness" or "efficiency" and the word "government" are a contradiction in terms. Perhaps it is because governments federal, state and local, have a reputation for inefficiency, ineffectiveness and waste. The big questions I shall leave you to ponder are, how we can ensure our politicians provide us with a valid, spin-free system for measuring government performance and what would it tell us?
